“Pearl” is the second and final solo album by Janis Joplin released posthumously three months after her death on January 11, 1971. The album held the number one spot on the Billboard 200 for nine consecutive weeks and has since been certified quadruple platinum. “Pearl” was the only album recorded with The Full Tilt Boogie Band who helped record a polished sound designed to show off Joplin’s vocal range and singing ability as opposed to her earlier releases with Big Brother and the Holding Company which catapulted Joplin to superstardom because of her raw and raspy approach to female vocals. Hear the number one track “Me and Bobby McGee,” “Cry Baby,” and the a cappella “Mercedes Benz” now on Spotify.
