“Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” is the third studio album from American alt rock band The Smashing Pumpkins released on October 24, 1995. The 28-track album was released as a two-disc CD that featured a wide variety of musical influences. The album was both a critical and cultural sensation, earning seven Grammy nominations including Record of the Year and Album of the Year, nine MTV VMA nominations mostly for “Tonight, Tonight,” and to date is their only album to top the Billboard 200. The band took home the award for Best Hard Rock Performance with Vocal for their song “Bullet with Butterfly Wings,” has since been certified 10x platinum, and will forever go down as one of the most influential alternative and grunge albums in history.
